Clay, AL, is a small town in the United States of America. This small city is home to a population of 4,762 people and sits about 30 minutes away from the bigger city of Montgomery. Clay is a quiet community where everyone knows each other’s name and lives a peaceful life.
Clay takes pride in its schools that are part of the Pike County School District. The education level in the city is high, with around 94% of adults having completed high school and 48% holding bachelor’s degrees or even higher degrees.
Clay holds few festivals throughout the year, but one that it does hold is its “Christmas on Main”, which has been getting bigger every year since 1999. There are always hot cocoa and hot cider for sale, along with arts & crafts. Santa Claus even makes an appearance on the big screen in the historic center of town.
Clay has a volunteer fire department that serves its citizens seven days a week, 24 hours per day. There are around 55 firefighters who are all trained with recent updated equipment to make sure they can serve their community well. Clay is filled with history that dates back to the Civil War era. Some historic landmarks that are still standing include, “Oak Alley,” which was built in 1822 and still has its original doors; the only other correct door in the building is currently in Montgomery, AL. The Old Pike County Jail, which was built in 1837, has doors that are made of cast iron. This historical building is now home to the Clay Historical Society Museum, where you can see many old artifacts and pictures that date back several generations.
Clay also has a small post office located on Main Street. People who live in this small town are lucky to be delivered their mail by truck rather than by horseback like it used to be.
Clay is home to the Clay Public Library, where its citizens can enjoy reading, studying, and doing research with many different types of literature.
