The History of Alabaster
Alabaster has an interesting history. It was founded in 1871 with the establishment of a post office. The small farming community’s postmaster named it Alabaster because he found white marble rocks in Shoal Creek.
Alabaster was not incorporated until 1959 with about 1,000 people in the city limits. Four years later, there were 3,500 residents and by 1970 that number had increased to over 10,000.
From 1970 to 2000, Alabaster continued growing in population by almost 90% with nearly 21,000 citizens calling the city home in 2000. By 2010, the population had increased by another 20% to hit the mark of 26,269 residents who live there today.
Nowadays, Alabaster is a bustling community with beautiful residential neighborhoods, nice schools, and many shops and restaurants. Alabaster citizens also enjoy great local events like the Farmers Market at Eastdale Mall.
