Brown Springs, AL, is a neighborhood in Birmingham, AL, best known for its quaint, small-town atmosphere. The town has a population of 891 people as of 2011 and is also home to one high school with 542 students as of the 2014-2015 academic year.
Brown Springs is often referred to as “that place in Alabama where everyone knows everyone”, since most residents have lived there their whole lives and many of their sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews still live there. The common belief among the locals is that Brown Springs has “perfect weather,” but this is not true: like anywhere else in the country, it snows in winter and gets unbearably hot during summer.
Brown Springs High School’s mascot is the Brownie, and their school colors are brown and tan. The school has a long-standing rivalry with its neighbor to the east, Rock Creek High School (Rock Creak, AL).
No one is quite sure how Brown Springs got its name: some say it’s because of all of the springs in town that lead to some of the best water in the country, but others say that it’s just a name that was given to a random settlement.
