Car Detailing in Arlington-West End, Birmingham, AL
Arlington-West End, AL, is a neighborhood in Birmingham, Alabama. It is also known as the West End (not to be confused with Birmingham’s West End). It has many fine restaurants, hotels and plenty of nightlife.
The neighborhood came into existence in the 1950s when Chelsea Corporation began constructing townhomes for veterans returning from World War II. Residents can usually be found wearing their favorite football team’s jersey, either the Dallas Cowboys or the Denver Broncos.
West Birmingham was originally established in the late 1950s following the completion of Chelsea, Inc.’s seven-building development. Consisting of around eleven hundred units, Chelsea’s idea behind West Birmingham was to endeavor to create a neighborhood similar to that of its other housing communities. While it did keep with the urban-feel design that Chelsea pioneered, West Birmingham was a little different from its counterparts in that it included two-story garden-style apartment buildings.
In the 1970s, Chelsea began selling off their properties to homebuilders who chose to rebuild and sell off portions of West Birmingham’s townhomes as individual properties. In the early 1990s, with Chelsea’s continued decrease in property value and sale, it began to rent out boarded-up homes to local low-income families. Today this area is known as the “West End.”
